Assesment 3 post

Ok so half of the year is gone, if it went quick that is good but if slow then not so much. Anyway after much strangeness and spamming this year so far has been great. With mpi104 I learnt a lot about using web space and sites such as blogger, delicious which I still believe is kind of useless and Flickr which is my favourite so far because of the freedom of being able to put pictures up. Blogger also does this to an extent but is still a site for blogging not posting pictures.

Other things that we have learnt is Iweb, a program that using a predetermined web space generates a template for a website that you design, we have also learnt how to use ftp and rss feeds. Ftp (file transfer protocol) is a generate web space which we used in conjunction with iweb to produce our own websites on any topic of our choosing. This had to include an rss feed which is used to update frequently published works, usually in blogs, the reason why we need it I presume.

When starting on a new program or blogging site with having no experience is confusing at first but with some help and time it becomes easier and you don’t find yourself behind in class.
That’s all from me for now so remember to look at my new Flickr posts, some of the demos are good.

RSS post

rss as from wikipedia: RSS (most commonly expanded as Really Simple Syndication) is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works—such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video—in a standardized format.[2] An RSS document (which is called a "feed", "web feed",[3] or "channel") includes full or summarized text, plus metadata such as publishing dates and authorship.

anyway rss is useful but tricky when you don know what your doing, which is my case but it was eventually figured out.

ftp post

is this needed? oh well so ftp or file transfer protocol is a generated space for creating websites. as a student of MPI104 this was required for our second assesment. this space too our iweb sites and placed them on the server.

html post

very late but its here, html uses coding and as such makes it harder to use due to remembering the proper codes because if there is a mistake in the code then it will not work and you will get a blank screen. html is the website design program that i am most use to as being exposed to it before (year 10 assesment). html is hard but when the code is proper and you know what your doing it is only time consuming.

ITS DONE

Assessment #2 is done, using iweb made things quite simple. Using the design template I had picked from our tutorial on iweb I generate a site that displays my love of anime, games and all round general randomness. I am satasified with the result and my only problems were with a hit counter that liked to disappear and linked to a random site for awhile.

Using iweb compared to html or dreamweaver as in the past I found that iweb is much simpler than writing the html code or remembering the placement for dreamweaver. Other problems that were common were the rss feeds for the site. This was solved rather quickly and without further problems. Iweb is a useful site for quickly generating websites simply.
